How Art Can Improve Your Business

The office may not be the place that we want to spend most of our time, but it certainly takes up a large portion of it. It is quite a consolation, then, to see workplaces becoming more vibrant, innovative and modern environments. From architectural designs to ergonomic furniture, the modern office is built to make our day to day as painless and productive as possible.

And the presence of art can play a big role.

A series of studies by Exeter University’s School of Psychology have pointed to workers in ‘enriched spaces’ (those containing art or plants) as being 17% more productive than those in lean ones (no or little art or plants). The study followed on from the discovery that employees who have control over the design and layout of their workspaces are happier, healthier and 32% more productive.

The remarkable impact of art in workplace is not isolated to the UK either. A study undertaken by the Business Committee for the Arts and the International Association for Professional Art Advisors surveyed 800 employees across 32 organisations with workplace art collections. The results pointed to art within the offices of the business helping to overcome key challenges such as reducing stress (78% agree), increasing creativity (64% agreed) and encouraging expression of opinions (77% agreed).

With findings like this it is easy to see why so many firms across Australia are investing in the art that fills their waiting rooms, meeting areas and office space.
