A cornice is a moulding or area between the ceiling and the top part of a wall. There are three common types:

What is a rail and how does it work?

A rail is an aluminium strip that comes in different shapes, colours and finishes. It can bear hanging weights between 15 - 50kg per metre. The profile or shape can accommodate different types of interior architecture.

Matching the shape of the rail to the shape of your cornice area minimises the visual impact of the hanging system.

Some rails can be installed during construction of the ceiling or wall; others can be installed post construction.

What is a rail attached to?

Some rail can be attached to walls, others are attached to ceilings.

How does the hanger attach to the rail?

We work with two types of hangers:

1.  Cobra and T anchor hangers attach and detach (clip in/clip out) anywhere along the lengths of the Clip Rail and Recessed Ceiling Rail.

2.  Lineal feed hangers slide into the end of a rail. Lineal feed hangers are used with the Ceiling/Partition Rail, U Rail and Gallery Rail systems.

Should I use metal or nylon hangers?

  • If your pictures are heavier than 15kg in weight, metal hangers (cables) should be used.
  • Where you want to minimise the visual appearance of the hangers and your pictures weigh less than 15kg, nylon hangers are best to use.
  • Metal hangers are hard wearing and are recommended for commercial use.
  • If your pictures are less than 15kg in weight, either metal or nylon hangers can be used.

Do I need an end cap or connector?

End caps are used when the end of the rail is visible. Some rail systems have connectors and some don’t. Your kit will have the connector included where necessary.

What's the best way to customise the hanging system to my room?

    1.  Draw a sketch of your wall/s.

    2.  Measure the length of each wall from end to end.

    3.  Calculate the number of 2m lengths that equal this measurement.
Always over estimate as the rail can be cut to fit the wall length exactly.

    4.  Allocate the number or sketch the positions of the artwork you wish
         to hang on the wall.

We can hang every thing from one picture using a screw in the wall to hundreds of pictures using picture hanging rail systems.
Please contact us or see our section called Hanging and Installation.

Can I install a hanging kit myself?

Yes!
Ideally you know the difference between plasterboard and masonry walls, are fairly handy with power tools and you don’t mind being up a ladder for a while.
